Most wardrobes at Furnecia are delivered fully assembled and ready to use — our team brings it into your room built. This guide is for two situations: if you've chosen flat-pack delivery for an open-door wardrobe (available on request, useful for tight access), or if you've ordered one of our sliding door wardrobes, which are always delivered flat-packed due to the track mechanism.
Tools You'll Actually Need
Most wardrobes include the fixings and an Allen key, but a few extras make the job easier: a power drill with a Phillips bit (much faster than hand-tightening dozens of screws), a rubber mallet for gently seating tight-fitting dowels, and a spirit level to check the finished unit is properly upright before you fill it.
Realistic Time Estimates by Door Count
As a rough guide: 1–2 door wardrobes typically take 30–60 minutes for one person. 3–4 door wardrobes are usually a 60–90 minute job, better with two people given panel size. 5–6 door and larger wardrobes can take 2–3 hours and are genuinely a two-person job — the panels are too large and heavy to manage safely alone. Sliding door wardrobes, always delivered flat-packed, typically take a little longer than an equivalent hinged design due to the door track mechanism.
Before You Start
Unpack everything and lay out the panels and fixings first, checking against the instructions that nothing's missing — discovering a missing part halfway through is far more frustrating than catching it at the start. Clear a large, flat area to work in, ideally the room the wardrobe will end up in, since moving a partially-assembled unit is difficult.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Don't fully tighten every screw as you go — leave fixings slightly loose until the whole frame is together, then tighten everything at the end. This makes it much easier to adjust panels that are slightly misaligned. Also check the wardrobe is against a wall and roughly level before fitting doors, since doors fitted to an unlevel frame won't hang or close properly.
When to Get Help
For 5 door wardrobes and above, or if you're not confident lifting and holding large panels in place alone, it's worth arranging a second person before you start rather than partway through.
