Moving house comes with a long list of things to organise, and furniture is easy to leave until the last minute — which usually means rushing decisions once you're already surrounded by boxes. Ordering ahead with the right priorities avoids that.
Order Before You Move, Not After
Since most furniture takes 3–5 working days to arrive, ordering key pieces before moving day means your bed, wardrobe, and sofa can arrive close to when you actually need them, rather than sleeping on the floor for a week while you shop.
Priority One: The Bedroom
A bed and mattress should be your first order — you'll notice a bad night's sleep faster than almost anything else in a new home. Follow with a wardrobe or wardrobe set sized to what you actually own.
Priority Two: The Living Room
A sofa or sofa bed comes next — particularly useful if you'll have guests helping with the move or staying over in the early days.
Measure the New Property Before You Order
If possible, get room measurements and note doorway and stairwell widths at the new property before ordering large furniture — this avoids the frustrating scenario of a wardrobe or sofa that doesn't fit through the door on moving day.
Time Deliveries Around Your Moving Date
Where possible, schedule furniture delivery for a few days after you have keys, giving you time to clean and prepare the space before large items arrive and need to be manoeuvred in.

Most items — beds, sofas, dining sets, sliding wardrobes — arrive flat-packed and need assembly, while hinged wardrobes typically arrive ready to use. Factor assembly time into your moving week plan rather than assuming everything will be usable the moment it arrives.
